History

The Oaxaca Old Fashioned is relatively new to the cocktail scene but gained enough popularity to be counted among the contemporary classics. Created in 2007 by Phil Ward at Death & Co. in NYC, the drink introduced mezcal to the drinkers palate, green lighting mezcal-based cocktails all around the world and adding the traditionally smoky spirit to the arsenal of bartender's ingredients.

The smoky bite of mezcal is softened with almost double the amount of tequila. Although any type of tequila works, a reposado is best to soften sharper edges and complement the mezcal.
