History

When King Farouk of Egypt visited Cyprus in the 1930s, this drink disguised to look like an iced tea was created for him to imbibe (alcoholic consumption was forbidden to him as per Islamic tradition). Lemon squash was used as sweetener (effectively lemon syrup) rather than plain simple syrup - the lemons in cyprus are quite bitter and so had to be sweetened first before becoming palatable.
