Who We Are

Stir Society was created by cocktail enthusiasts, for cocktail enthusiasts. Because enjoying a good drink shouldn't require a degree in mixology, a second mortgage, or years of trial and error at the bar.

The idea began with Dr. Karunakaran, founder of Stir Society, who, somewhat ironically, didn't touch alcohol until well into his 20s. Things changed when he began dating someone who enjoyed the occasional drink but hadn't quite figured out what she liked. What followed was an enthusiastic (and occasionally expensive) tour of bars, ordering cocktail after cocktail in search of that perfect drink.

As he started spending more time with friends who also enjoyed a good cocktail, he realized this wasn't an isolated problem. Plenty of people knew they liked drinking cocktails; they just weren't entirely sure which cocktails they liked, or where to begin.

Rather than continue funding the local bar industry's growth one cocktail at a time, he decided to take matters into his own hands and start mixing drinks himself. Over the next five years, he developed his palate, knowledge, and mixology skills through tastings, experimentation, and connections throughout NYC and the Mid-Atlantic. Eventually, what started as a personal curiosity became Stir Society: a way to help others discover their tastes without having to spend several thousand dollars (and countless happy hours) figuring it all out themselves.

Stir Society is an ever-growing resource dedicated to the world of cocktails, spirits, and mixology. From recipes and techniques to spirit histories, brand insights, and industry knowledge, our goal is to make the fascinating world behind the bar a little more accessible to everyone.

Keeping the Society Stirring

Behind every great website is a server somewhere quietly working overtime. Unfortunately, servers aren't particularly fond of working for free.

Our goal is to keep Stir Society's educational resources accessible to the public, without putting everything behind a paywall. To help make that possible, we support the platform through sponsorships, brand partnerships, and select premium subscriptions. Premium members also enjoy additional features, including the ability to create unlimited custom recipes.

We want to keep the spirit of discovery open to everyone, while building opportunities for the brands and professionals who help make the cocktail world so interesting.
