  • 4 ozOrange juice
  • ¼ ozSimple syrup

  3. Strain into the highball glass
  4. Garnish with orange wedge

History

This cocktail has been around since the 1800s in various forms, usually equal parts Campari and freshly squeezed orange juice. That formulation lends itself to a very bitter-forward drink, so Naren Young from Caffe Dante, NYC, reinvented the cocktail as a highball in 2015. He uses a "fluffy orange juice" which is a super-aerated OJ using a high-speed juicer. For simplistic purposes though, hand squeezed or store-bought OJ will work just fine - you may just need to add a touch of simple syrup to sweeten it a bit. It makes for an excellent brunch cocktail.
