History
Yet another daiquiri variant associated with the great author Hemingway, this drink unfortunately acquired a bad rep in the 1980's and '90s with the proliferation of cheap, poor quality sour mixes and artificial flavorings used in commercial frozen drink machines that made the cocktail sickly sweet.
In the craft cocktail boom following after those decades, the frozen daiquiri reacquired some of its decorum, being made with freshly squeezed citrus and no artificial flavoring - that is if you order one not at a college dive bar or commercial beach resort.
The drink is a bit more traditionally sweet than a regular daiquiri, using a touch more sugar and rum, but at the end of the day, the drink can be customized to your tastes. When making frozen drinks in a traditional blender, use a 3/4 cup of ice for every standard 4 ounces of other liquid ingredients, at least for drinks in the sour category. Other frozen drinks with different types of ingredients or amounts may need their ice amount adjusted based on preferred tastes and slushiness.
